Get Started with SAM
Registration is required to bid on federal contract awards or receive assistance directly from the federal government. You can also request a Unique Entity ID (UEl) without having to complete a registration. Both submitting a registration and receiving a UEl are free, but will require materials including core data, representations and certifications.
Read the descriptions of each action below to determine which path is best for you:
Start a New Registration
First step to registration is validating the details of your entity. Once validated, a Unique Entity ID (UEI) will be issued. Depending on needs:
Get UEI only. UEI is essential in ensuring that each entity doing business with the federal government is uniquely identified.
SAM.gov Registration. If your entity will bid and compete on contracts. Registration will remain active for one year from the date of submission.
Both options are free, and your UEI never expires.
Check Registration Status
Enter the UEI to check registration status or when to renew registration. Checking the registration status is important. Communication will be sent if documentation is needed during the process. Prompt reply will avoid any delays. Processing time varies. Typically, approval can take anywhere from 7 to 10 business days, but it may be longer if there are errors, missing documentation.
Important: Only users assigned a role by the Entity Administrator will be able to see registration status using this tool.
Renew Registration
Start the renewal process at least 60 days before your expiration date to avoid disruptions. Registration must be renewed every year to remain active to receive federal awards and direct payments. Registration can be updated at any time and should be accurate. If any business details or banking information change, make sure to update the entity registration to avoid any delays in payments.
Important: If the Entity Administrator is unknown and registration inactive start with the account recovery process from your workspace.
